Point Cloud
Needless
to say, a point cloud is a mass of 3D points with x,y,z co-ordinates.
In theory the more points the more precisely the model is
defined. In practice more points can mean more work in converting
the point cloud into smooth CAD surfaces. For example,
if the scanned part has a sparc finish, do you want this shown
on your CAD model? The solution lies in the skill of the
person scanning the data deciding which equipment to use and
what density to use for the point clound, followed by optimising
the point file before converting it into the required curves
and surfaces.
